I will continue to train with Rhonnda throughout my pursuit of the full distance ironman. It is the best investment I have ever made and I cannot thank Rhonnda Cloinger and Bobby Holcombe enough...

I started working with Rhonnda Cloinger in June of 2013. I had completed three marathons using reputable plans I found online and had been successful at completing the distance. I decided to go for my lifelong dream of completing a full ironman triathlon of 140.6 miles (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run). I knew I needed guidance and support above and beyond what I could find online, well, because I had never done a triathlon. I was a BASIC swimmer and novice on the bike... and completely overwhelmed, yet determined. Rhonnda took me under her wing and within four months of training I went from complete newbie to a long distance triathlete, completing a 70.3 mile half ironman and signing up for my first full ironman next year. Rhonnda trained me in EVERY aspect of the sport: she taught me all the basics of swim, bike, and run; cross-training and physical fitness outside of the three disciplines, coached me on nutrition, and most importantly provided me with moral/mental support. Her plan was based off my abilities, not just some random buildup to half ironman distance. Her plans are very methodical and based off your individual physiology, making the training SAFE while providing the most efficient and effective formula for growth. While training for the half ironman she incorporated training for the Marine Corps Marathon, a month after my first half ironman. She has always been available when I needed her, took her time to explain, comfort, and encourage me when I needed it. She pushed me when it was time to push, and pulled me back when I started going off the rails. Never once did she cause me to remotely question her knowledge or advice. She is a lady of outstanding integrity and character, instilling the best in everyone around her. She taught me what it means to be a triathlete. She was there from start to finish, every step of the way, every race. There is not one aspect of the sport that I feel I do not understand or was unprepared to handle on race day. When my goal race of the season came I knew I would finish, but what happened on race day blew all my expectations away.. and was repeated again a month later at my 4th marathon. Every promise she made came true.

Prior to having Rhonnda as a coach my race experiences always ended with regret in some form or another. I was happy to finish, yet wishing I had done something differently. I was either over-trained or under prepared. With Rhonnda that changed. I had the best experience ever in my goal races under her guidance. I started both with excitement and confidence. I had the abilities to go the distance and the mental toughness to handle anything that came my way. There were no regrets when I crossed the finish lines… just complete joy that I had owned every moment, start to finish. I knew having a coach was the way to go, however I never imagined I would grow as much as I did, both as a person and as an athlete. I will continue to train with Rhonnda throughout my pursuit of the full distance ironman. It is the best investment I have ever made and I cannot thank Rhonnda Cloinger and Bobby Holcombe enough for what they have given me.

KE is an organization unlike any other. Bobby and Rhonnda are passionate about what they do and bring out the absolute best in their athletes, both on and off the field.

Bobby has helped me be a more confident runner by giving me the best training I could possibly have and the knowledge to tackle each run/workout efficiently.

After seeing the progress many of my running friends were making under Bobby's guidance I knew that I at least wanted to contact him to see what Knoxville Endurance was all about. I didn't imagine at the time that I would come to love a 4am alarm clock so much but after my first Tuesday morning practice I knew I wanted to keep going back and to see how my running could progress. Bobby has helped me be a more confident runner by giving me the best training I could possibly have and the knowledge to tackle each run/workout efficiently. Bobby has tailored my training to fit me - a mom of two working full time - so that I can reach my goals while still managing my other roles in life. With several practice locations and times it's easy to find one that works with my schedule as long as I am willing to put in the time, follow the training plan and be patient I know that I will reach my goals. In the past I had just messed around with training plans I found in running magazines or online and while they worked I wasn't seeing the same results those around me were. In 8 months I've hit several PR's, become a bit more competitive and learned to be patient with my goals and race plans.. all of this with the coaching Bobby has given me.

I am really excited to see where the next few months take me and look forward to meeting more goals.

I am amazed with each workout or race that I complete at just how far I have come and how much I have learned...

A friend talked me into getting up at 5am one morning to try Knoxville Endurance a little over one year ago. I thought she was crazy and I just knew that I would be intimidated and had no intentions of truly joining the program. Immediately my feelings changed after the first workout. I felt comfortable from the start and absolutely loved working out with such an amazing group of athletes. The group workouts are so encouraging and fun. There is always someone my speed to work with and everyone is so positive and supportive. I had always followed online programs and I did make some progress, but once I started working with Bobby I made huge strides. The personalization of the program is incredible. Each schedule is tailored to fit me and what is going on in my life. Bobby is always available when I have questions or issues. He is totally invested in making sure I do my best and accomplish my goals. I am amazed with each workout or race that I complete at just how far I have come and how much I have learned not only about running, but about myself.

I can't wait to see what I accomplish next!

Bobby helped me train and become fit even when I have never been an athlete...

During the summer of 2011, I began running with my friend Kathy, who was already training with Bobby. I was turning 50 and concerned that I was not doing what I needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle. With Bobby's training I was able to begin seeing actual results. I have learned how to fuel before, during and after a race to help me achieve my best times. He sends me my schedule and discusses it with me. Although he has many clients, he makes me feel as though he knows what he needs to about my goals and abilities. He is available to discuss concerns and race plans so that I feel confident when the race time arrives. I truly just do what he says and am seeing desired results and goals met. After running and placing in my age group in several local 5K races, I ran the 4 Bridges Half in Chattanooga and achieved a time better than I had hoped for. I enjoy the benefits of running and am thankful that I can finally call myself an athlete thanks to Coach Bobby!

All you have to do is listen and follow the schedule. I promise.

It was September 2002, after another 5k, frustrated about not breaking 18 minutes, again, (I had been consistently running 18:20), when Bobby said, "You wanna get better or what man?" Of course I said, "Well yeah! That's what I'm trying to do here!" To which Bobby replied, "I can help you. Just listen to me and follow the schedule and you'll get better. I promise."

Withing six weeks I took FIVE minutes off my 15k time and by December I ran 17:43. By May of 2003 (less than 8 months after listening to Bobby) I broke 17 minutes. Fast forward to 2011 and I'm still running PRs like 32:59 for 10k and 2:37:50 at the Boston Marathon where I split 18:20 over the Newton Hills. I've even been inspired to coach, spending the 2010 season coaching high school track and cross country.

Bobby realizes it takes more than just workouts and mileage to achieve your goals. If that were the case, we could all just take some plan off the web and have at it. But we all know that doesn't work because those don't account for our unique physical traits, habits, and busy schedules. Bobby knows how to fine tune the schedule to fit your needs and can make the right adjustments when the unexpected comes up.

All you have to do is listen and follow the schedule. I promise.

With Bobby's personal, individualized coaching, I was no longer just a runner – I was an athlete.

I've been running for over 30 years. I was an all-state runner in high school and logged a 5K PR in those younger years of xx:xx. I've always loved to run and compete. After running a self-trained 4:06 marathon, I realized I was just-this-close to achieving the Boston Qualifier for my age group. Excited about what I had done on my own, Bobby encouraged me to work with him to meet the BQ standard. Having witnessed him successfully coach both of my children, one to national level performance, I agreed. With Bobby's personal, individualized coaching, I was no longer just a runner – I was an athlete. Under his tutelage I was at the track doing speed work for the first time since high school. I went into races with a bona fide plan, prepared to not just run competitively, but race competitively. Bobby helped me focus on the difference-makers…little things like nutrition, a race fueling plan, recovery, and core. I am in the executive coaching business, and tell leaders that everyone needs a coach, regardless of their level of success. That includes me. With Bobby's help, I ran my fastest 5K in decades, and earned my coveted Boston Qualifier.

Bobby understands how to put together an effective training plan and how to teach all the little things involved in becoming a better runner...

I trained under Bobby three different times in high school in order to prepare for postseason and national meets, and each time I was able to achieve a PR and a result I was satisfied with.  My first experience working with him came my junior cross country season while training for the Footlocker South regional race.  The top ten finishers in the race qualify for the national cross country meet, but my primary goal was just running a PR since the course is known to be fast and I didn’t think I had a chance to actually make nationals.  So when we started to train for the race and Bobby told me our goal was for me to qualify for nationals, I laughed at him and told him that was ridiculous. But four weeks later when it was time to race, he had changed my mind and made me believe that I could qualify for nationals. I ended up finishing eighth in a forty second PR, surprising everyone but Bobby and myself.  This is one example of how Bobby understands not only the technical side of running, but also the mental and motivational side. Bobby understands how to put together an effective training plan and how to teach all the little things involved in becoming a better runner, including form drills, the best ways to warm-up, and how to recover properly.  But what sets him apart is that he often believes in his runners more than they believe in themselves, leading them to accomplish goals they never would have even set without him.

Believe that you can accomplish your goal...

I began training under Knoxville Endurance in April of 2012. Before working with Bobby at KE, I was a self-trained marathoner since 2007 with a growing family and not much time to train. After training for just 4 months for the 5k distance, I've lowered my 5k PR by 2 minutes from 19:30 to 17:30. I also ran a new mile PR of 5:07, beating my 19-year-old high school track time of 5:16.

Prior to teaming up with Bobby, I achieved running success using various training programs for marathoning, but I didn't seem to have the speed for shorter distances. Bobby has provided the direction I needed to improve my speed and removed the pressure of trying to find the perfect training program. It won't be easy, convenient or glamorous; but never, never, never give up and always give 110%, because the work will pay off. Believe that you can accomplish your goal and Knoxville Endurance will help you reach it.

Probably most importantly, Bobby has helped me reach my goal of running at a Division I college, Georgetown University.

Before I started training with Bobby, I had run in the Knoxville Track Club Youth Athletics program for 5 years. I had also run a high school cross country season and 3 years of middle school cross country and track. After my first high school cross country regionals, I began to train full-time under Bobby. After 3 consistent weeks, I took almost a minute off my 5k PR. I then trained for my freshmen outdoor track season. That year, I placed 3rd in the district in the 800m and 8th in the region for 1600m. Bobby then coached me to a 13th place all-state finish in cross country and an all-state 5th place in the 1600m as a sophomore. The next year, I finished 4th at state in cross country, 3rd at state in the 800m, and 2nd at state in the 1600m. In addition to that, I was the district champion in the 1600m as a junior and in the 800m as a sophomore and junior.

Probably most importantly, Bobby has helped me reach my goal of running at a Division I college, Georgetown University. His training philosophy keeps me focused on the long-term plan, so that I may reach my highest goals.

He gave me a lot of confidence in my abilities and made me believe that I could be a better...

I moved to Knoxville in 2004 after college and started training under Bobby. We had a lot of discussions about my goals in running and how we would meet and exceed those goals through his coaching. It wasn't an overnight process but after slowly building my mileage and increasing the intensity of my workouts over time, I started to see dramatic improvements. My PR's prior of 17:30 for 5k and 3:19 for marathon dropped to 15:32 and 2:37 along with huge PR's in every other distance during the 4 years span Bobby coached me. Before this improvement could happen, I had to fully buy into Bobby's program and trust in what he was telling me, which I did. It was a lot of hard work, but Bobby is a great motivator and very encouraging. He gave me a lot of confidence in my abilities and made me believe that I could be a better runner than I ever thought I would be. Today, I structure my training around Bobby's format and am still running strong and setting PR's. Thanks, Coach!

We have discussed all the avenues of the lifestyle changes that are necessary to implement in order for his training to truly benefit me as the runner.

I remember as a young toddler in the 80s, watching in awe as a runner carried the olympic torch down a long flat road accross the plains of Colorado. I admired runners from that day forward. In middle school, I was the dork who couldn't wait until the end of basketball practice because that was the time to RUN! I played around with the thought of taking up cross country in high school, but never thought I could be good enough at it. It wasn't until the Spring of 2007, at the age of 27, that I fully committed myself to becoming a runner. I placed 1st in my age group at my debut 5K in a small Savannah, GA suberb. I was hooked on the competition and sheer love of running from then on! Over the last few years, I had trained myself, and mostly by myself pushing my body to the limits. I had accomplished many PRs in that time and knew running had found me! I also very quickly began paying the price for overtraining myself as I suffered and ran through bilateral stress fractures for almost 2 years. Returning from injury was a very emotional experience for me and knew I needed some help and coaching of someone much more experienced.

I hired Bobby and became pleased with the results right away! His mantra to me is to be patient and allow myself to have "easy" runs, and let the training work itself out. We have discussed all the avenues of the lifestyle changes that are necessary to implement in order for his training to truly benefit me as the runner. He has been so right and I am already benefitting from his experienced wisdom. I very recently set a 1/2 marathon PR by over 5 minutes. We are still in our early stages of training together, but I am completely estatic to see where my training may potentially go. He is awesome to work with and I appreciate all his time, dedication, and love of the sport of running!

Working with him has been a great experience and I've learned a lot over the past three years.

Bobby's vast running knowledge and competitive nature has strongly influenced me into the experienced runner that I am today. Over the past ten years, Bobby has made a huge impact in the Knoxville running community by coordinating group runs and workouts for runners of all fitness levels. He not only provided me with a training structure to make a smooth transition from college to the road scene but more importantly he motivated me to believe that I had what it takes to qualify for the 08 Olympic Marathon Trials. I can attribute a lot of the training for my seven marathons (2:21:58 PR) to the support and encouragement of Bobby.

On a more personal level, Bobby and I both share similar paths to our discovery of running. We came to the sport after having competed in an avenue of many different sports. We both quickly realized that with running, if you did the work, you can see results. Through incorporating running into our daily routine, Bobby and I have both developed from beginner to experienced. This is what I consider to be one of his key assets to his program; he knows firsthand what it's like to go from novice to professional. In addition, his desire to help others achieve their goals has been a large factor in helping me succeed. Bobby has not only pushed me in the 1,000's of miles throughout the past several years but has also helped with the foundational knowledge that I needed in order to compete on the national level.

Working with him has been a great experience and I've learned a lot over the past three years.

Before meeting Bobby, I was a recreational runner with a dream of one day running a marathon, and eventually qualifying and completing the Boston marathon. With Bobby as my trainer, my dreams soon became reality the day I finished my first marathon, the Flying Pig in 2009 at 3:24:27. Not only did I finish, but with a time that qualified me to run the Boston for 2010. Since, he has coached me through two other marathons, both in Boston, in 2010 and 2011, both personal records at 3:22:41 and 3:17:03. Bobby has a tremendous passion for the sport and in encouraging others to achieve their goals. Working with him has been a great experience and I've learned a lot over the past three years. I'm confident that any of his students would feel the same.
